Welcome to our Solid State Ionics Group led by Assoc. Prof. Stefan Adams in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National University of Singapore. In our group, we employ both experimental and computational approaches to search for new materials for sustainable energy applications. Our current focus is mainly Li and Na batteries. Professor Maier was co-hosted by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (Stefan Adams) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Palani Balaya).

15 November 2022 Farewell and congratulations to Dr. HE Linchun, who leaves our group today to take up an Assistant Professor position in the International Center for Applied Mechanics of Prof. Zishun Liu at Xi’an Jiaotong University.
22 October 2022 Today, Prof. Dr. Karl Fischer passed away at the age of 97. With him, crystallography loses a scientist of outstanding importance and an impressive personality that with his enthusiasm shaped the careers of numerous scientists including PI Adams, who did his PhD in Fischer's institute in Saarbrücken. Prof. Fischer was both an honorary member of the German Society for Crystallography and recipient of the Carl Hermann Medal for his scientific life's achievements.

Our collaborative 2020 paper "Void Space Control in Porous Carbon for High-Density Supercapacitive Charge Storage" paper got an award as one of the top 3% cited papers in Energy and Fuels.
                                  
19 -21 September 2022 During the "Batteries for the Future"-Symposium of the Materials for Humanity 2022 hybrid conference (coorganized at NUS UTown by P. Canepa, Shou-hang Bo and PI Adams), our group gave presentations on LTPO-type ceramics, as well as polymer-ceramic composite Li and Zn conductors.

14 September 2022 During the ACSSI conference it was decided that the Executive Board of the Asian Society for Solid State Ionics remains essentially unchanged for the coming two years until the 2024 ACSSI conference (which will be organized in Chennai). Hence, PI Adams will continue to serve as Secretary of the Society.

18 July 2022 The paper " Topological control of room temperature conductivity in garnet type solid electrolytes. " arising from a presentation at the 3rd World Conference on Solid Electrolytes for Advanced Applications has been published in Ionics.

21 June 2022 We are looking for a highly talented and motivated PhD candidate to advance the development of safer high energy density solid state batteries with high capacity, high rate capability and long cycle life. The project will involve the nanotechnological syntheses, electrochemical, XRD and solid-state NMR characterization as well as interfacial engineering using Atomic Layer Deposition. The project in the frame of an Industry Collaboration project with a local company starts in January 2023. The position is fully funded with a 4-year PhD scholarship and tuition fee waiver. The candidate will join our Solid State Ionics Lab supervised by Assoc. Prof. Stefan Adams along with the industrial co-supervisor by Dr. Puneet Gupta. Over the four years project the student is supposed to spend four months working on the project within the company. 11-14 Dec. 2016 Wong Lee Loong and PI Adams gave presentationas at the Singapore International Chemistry Conference SICC9.
5-7 Dec. 2016 Several group members contributed to the MRS-S Trilateral Conference on Advanced Nanomaterials - Energy, Water & Healthcare here in Singapore. PI Adams gave an invited talk. Among the 4 posters presented by our group the contribution "Flexible Lightweight Inorganic - Organic Composite Membrane for Li-air Batteries" by Dorsasadat Safanama, Lim Hong Kit & Stefan Adams won one of the 3 best poster awards.

27 -30 Nov. 2016 At the Asian Conference on Solid State Ionics in Patna/India our group is representd by 1 keynote talk (S. Adams), 2 invited talks (Dr. Reddy, Dr. Rao), 1 oral contribution and 3 posters.
During the meeting A/P Adams has also been re-elected as Secretary of the Asian Society for Solid State Ionics for 2016-2018.
21 Nov. 2016 The paper "Proton Enhanced Dynamic Battery Chemistry for Aprotic Li-O2 Batteries" arising from a collaboration between Wang Qing's and our group at MSE, Argonne National Lab Advanced Photon Source, Univ. of Western Australia, Ningbo Institute of Material Technology and Engineering collaboration is accepted for Publication in Nature Communications.Congratulations to the fist author Yun Guang Zhu from Wang Qing's group.
